Year 5 in the Gulbenkian

We are learning about Jazz in music class, as it connects perfectly to their unit of inquiry: On the move. The central idea of the unit is "Throughout history people have been on the move with wide-ranging effects on themselves and the local population". As we have observed, jazz is a result of the fusion of african, native american and european musical traditions brought to America.
In the Gulbenkian children assisted to a presentation and jazz concert called "Journey to the world of jazz".
For further research this site is good starting point: http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/bhistory/history_of_jazz.htm

Children watching the presentation

After lunch writing in their learning journals
